Torah Inspired Tallitot

Torah Inspired Tallitot

Last month, I had the opportunity to work with seventh graders at Solomon Schechter School of Westchester. Students used the Torah portions for their b’nai mitzvah as inspiration for their art.

The piece on the left below was inspired by the text instructing us not to place a stumbling block in front of the blind. The tallit on the right below shows how God spoke to the Israelites.

The tallitot below illustrate Jacob dreaming about the ladder to heaven, Jacob’s multi-colored jacket and dreams, and the first fruits that were brought as sacrifices.

And last but not least is this gorgeous piece made by a young woman whose bat mitzvah will be on Rosh Hodesh and therefore shows the new moon with stars in the night sky.
