This semester, a group of congregants at Temple Emanu-El of West Essex in Livingston, NJ studied Psalms together with Susan Cosden, Director of Congregational Learning. During their last class earlier this week, I had the opportunity to join them to help them turn their favorite psalms into a piece of art. Each participant selected his/her favorite psalm or theme and to use as inspiration and I guided them through the process of interpreting the essence of that inspiration text into a piece of fiber art.
It was wonderful to see their art come to life throughout the afternoon and to see the variety of psalms and symbols people chose to use. Below are a few pictures of the group working hard on their creations.
At the end of the session, I collected all their art and will be sewing them all together into a wall hanging that will be displayed in the synagogue. I’m looking forward to the challenge!
