I’ve been having a great time working on a custom tallit for a young woman about to become Bat Mitzvah in Kenya. Since she is (such) long distance, I sent pictures of some fabric samples by email and she selected this beautiful, sophisticated fabric along with the wonderful quote for the atarah “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? And if I am for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?” I painted this quote on the blue fabric with the use of a light box.
Once the edges were finished and the atarah was sewn in place, I sewed the corners on and used my fabulous machine to make eyelets where the tzitzit would be placed. (Have I mentioned how much I love my sewing machine and my parents for getting it for me?!)
Next was the matching bag. And now all that’s left is to tie the tzitzit and get it off to Nairobi!
