Earlier this month, I was blessed to guide sixth graders at Temple Israel Center in White Plains in the creation of midrash tallitot for the third year in a row. Each year, the students are given the chance to explore the Torah portion for their Bnai Mitzvah through a creative medium and my tallit workshop is one of the options. It’s an exciting day as the students receive their chumashim and study their portion for the first time with their parents. After reading the parasha and discussing it with their parents, I help them create a tallit inspired by the text.
In the photos below, the families move from the study and design phase to the creation of their tallitot.
When they were happy with their creations (or running out of time), they moved to tying tzitzit.
And after a morning of hard work, they had tallitot they were proud to wear as they entered this exciting journey to bnai mitzvah.
